I've noticed that when I plug in my strat that there appears to be a lot of compression, almost as if the guitar is played through a compression pedal on low settings. I don't notice this with my semi-hollow body.
Is this normal?

Re: Compression
I notice with my strat that chords sound a little muted,(compressed?) and when you dig in the single notes bloom really nicely. That's on the clean channel. Is that what you mean?
Re: Compression
So are we talking Dumble clones here?
What circuit?
Usually sag or compression is associated with tube rectification.
And being that the Dumble's use SS rectifiers I wonder how much the choke or choke resistor affects this?

Re: Compression
If you want Fender chime, just max out the presence. If it's too bright back off on the treble. It works.
Re: Compression
Rut,
That's right. With a strat you have this compressed sound. With my ODS I had way too much compression. Make sure you have the cathode resistors on V1 correct. I had a "wrong" value and on my ODS clone it made my guitar sound extremely compressed.
Structo,
We're talking 'bout a different kind of compression here.

Re: Compression
OK. So it is normal. It's not that it is bad sounding, just different.
Thanks,

Re: Compression
You might also try a set of KT77's instead of 6L6's. There is still a long tail to the compression, but the initial "hit" of a pick on a string is a little firmer with KT77's IMHO. It has the effect of making your chordings and notes more immediate.
