PU question for dogears

I maybe should have just PM'ed but I thought it might be interesting for others here. Just wondering what your instrument setup is on the most of these clips you have posted (guitar, pu's). You achieve great tone BTW!

I used my Baker RF, spruce top, alder hollowed body, on these clips. Bridge humbucker on. It is a Duncan custom shop. 8.7K alnico II. Probably like a slightly hotter Seth Lover meets 59 (since it is potted).

I have also used Wolfetones and Dimarzio Virtual Hot PAF with good results!

Is there a CS name for it or is this something you spec'd out? I used to have a Seth Lover in a Heritage LP copy and 'sweet' is the best word to describe it. Wish I hadn't sold it but at >11.5 pounds it had to go.

I would not recommend using Seymour Duncan. My experience dealing with them was shit. I was bullshitted and then artist pricing reneged after being offered! So, I would instead recommend using someone like Wolfe at Wolfetone or Jeff at High Order. I guess what comes around goes around! Karma at its best....

Look for something Alnico II in the 8.3K to 8.7K range. Not rocket science!

I have also had good results with the Dimarzio Virtual Hot PAF.

I'll add a +1 for Jeff at High Order. As it happens I've got an 8.3K AII bridge pickup from him and it really sings. It's slightly asymmetric between the two coils so is harmonically very rich. He was great to deal with and I'll definitely be going back for more.

I've also heard some really good clips of Wolfe's pickups from a number of people so they'd be worth exploring too.

I'll add my 1+ for Wolfetone. He's done most of my pickups for the last 3+ years; outstanding guy. Tell him what sound you want, and if he doesn't nail it, send em back and he'll rewind.

Another +1 for Jeff. I have one of his Maximus (~9.5k, A5) in my LP and I love it. It's a bit 'more' than many might prefer but I like that in the bridge. And it's a bonus when you just meet him at the local Starbucks and he hand delivers the p'up and chats about p'ups over a cup of coffee. Heard great things about Wolfe too.

Alnico II in the 8.3K to 8.7K range

+2 for high order - they are some of the best ive heard and his pricing is very fair. Also Fralin, Lollar, and WCR, all make nice pickups.

I currently have a seymour duncan antiquity neck and gibson 57 classic plus bridge in a washburn 335 copy. They difinitely do not sound like that. Not bad but not like that. I wouldn't have guessed it was just the bridge pu only.

Another +1 for Jeff at High Order - I've got a pair of his pickups in my '57 RI (8.5k AII bridge, 7.9k AII neck) and they're quite simply amazing!
