Dogears "Wacky track" is what prompts this question (for guys that have built both 50 and 100 watt D-clones or have experience with same): Do you find any significant TONAL advantage to having a 100 watt amp vs a 50 watter, all other things being equal? I ask because I have a 50w clone now but could be talked into converting my '70 Twin if the tone could potentially be even better. I do not need the volume of a 100 watter, but If the tone was a factor, I might consider a conversion vs a sale.
thanks

Re: tone of a 100 watt vs 50 watt
There seems to be a big difference in amp response due to both the power amp NFB loop as well as cap sizes.... The 100 seems to have nice dampening and girth. I like the 100...

Re: tone of a 100 watt vs 50 watt
I've found that there's just something about an amp with 4 power tubes that 2 can't do. That goes for Twin's vs. Vibrolux et al. I find that the 4 6V6 amp is just has more girth and depth than the 2 6L6 amp, where I'd expect the opposite.

The cleans are much better in a 100watter IMHO.

+1. I prefer the 100 for the cleans and the fullness. I don't normally play real loud and in a soft band setting/small room the 50 will work fine. It's just irritating when I punch a chord in clean mode and hear the "break up" when going for a clean jazzy tone.
