David Lindley is selling two ODS
A guy I know, knows Lindley, and got this message from him:
"#2 Overdrive Special: ("The Orange Light") is the second one made. 2 channels/50WATTS but marked 200WATTS, Channel-switching footswitch. It has a separate head and a 2X12" ported cabinet made specially for the head that has the old white Altecs in there. The head is covered in the original K-Mart vinyl snakeskin. The cabinet is black boar's hide vinyl. This amp has been constantly checked and serviced by Dumble over the years and parts replaced as they were needed so it's not so much an artifact as it is a bullet-proof working amp. This amp was the first one he made me. Both the amp top and the speaker cabinet have flight cases.
#8 Overdrive Special: ("The Blue Light Special"). This amp is the 8th Overdrive made. 2channels/50Watts but marked 200WATTS on the back. It is the amp I recorded the "Running On Empty" slide through and countless other studio slide tracks. It is also the amp I used in all the ElRayo-X live gigs for slide. It is an earlier circuit that I wouldn't let Dumble mess with, (upgrade) because it has an other-worldly human voice tone that I've never heard in any other amp. It too has K-Mart snakeskin covering, known as "The Order Of The Python". The cabinet is covered in black boar's hide and I think the grillcloth is a truly ugly beige/gold speaker cloth made for ADVENT.
Both amps are more than fully functional and serviced by the only other amp guy Dumble would trust to repair and work on his amps, Sifu Paul Morte at Technical Services, the only amp guy I use other than Dumble. They never break down or fail. Speakers being blown was a rare occurence. If you're interested drop me an Email with an offer. They're gonna cost, needless to say. And I would rather that they go to a musician/player rather than a collector but I'm open to all offers. Pictures will be available on this website when I can take some. Pleasant dreams. Mr. Dave "
The price is said to be 100K each......

Re: David Lindley is selling two ODS
I wonder... maybe he's switched to a Hot Rod Deluxe?
Re: David Lindley is selling two ODS
Hot damn.. (Bob checks bank account)
That Running on Empty tone was the one that started me on this never ending tone quest. I wired in V1 as an OD tube on my Twin Reverb. After years of tweaking I put it back to original and sold it. Had I had this forum I might've been able the nail that tone. For one I had the OD BEFORE the clean stages, not after, next I put the gain control after V1b. Gain control and tone stack were in the wrong places and no amount of tweaking could get that elusive tone.

Due to the historical value, I can see how they would be worth that much.Tdale wrote:A guy I know, knows Lindley, and got this message from him: Both amps are more than fully functional and serviced by the only other amp guy Dumble would trust to repair and work on his amps, Sifu Paul Morte at Technical Services, the only amp guy I use other than Dumble. I guess Sifu Paul Morte (who ?) is now the go-to guy since Jim Foote was kicked out of "the club" ?
Proud holder of US Patent # 7336165.

Re: David Lindley is selling two ODS
Actually the 100K figure is the starting price........
He is looking for more.
There is another extremely well known one that is on the auction block and it should go for between 100K and 125K If you are interested, I can hook you up....
Wait til the man passes away someday, we will see Dumbles go for prices like 59 Les Pauls.

Westcoast gossip (grain of salt recommended): JF is D's closest technical friend at present, rumored to be slated to take over the business perhaps as early as 2009, with intentions to wipe out the clone industry with competitively priced real specimens. Of course, this could explain why these particular Dumble amps are being downloaded now, while there is still no cheaper alternative bearing the name of the Man.
Cheers,
Gil

That is a fascinating bit of gossip... it could really shake things up.

It would have to be pretty cheap to wipe out the clone industry. I think at least around here there are builders who have built enough respect through posting of clips that new production dumbles might be a hard sell to people on the board here. OTOH I'm sure there are tons of people who don't hang out here would jump at the chance, and maybe people here would as well.with intentions to wipe out the clone industry with competitively priced real specimens.
Seems to me if HAD isn't building them they'd really just be clones themselves (that is, the new dumbles). Granted, Morte is better informed about the amps (I'd hope) than people here, but he's not HAD, and the biggest factor in making these amps great is using your ears and tweaking, which I'd say guys that hang out here have probably done AT least as much as Morte has, probably more since a lot of their tweaking would have been outside the normal Dumble parameters as there has not always been a ton of info available.
Interesting.

Gil's post mentioned that JF would be making the amps, not Morte... fwiw.benoit wrote:Granted, Morte is better informed about the amps (I'd hope) than people here, but he's not HAD
Interesting.
