stupid question

Post by TimS »

Forgive my ignorance, but I've seen a lot of reference to "the '80s circuit" and I was wondering if someone could please clue me into which schematic that refers to (or if one even exists). I've seen one schem from the '60s, a couple from the '70s, and several from the '90s, but I haven't been able to find one from the '80s (or if I did, there wasn't any reference to it being from that decade). And yes, I did use the search function.

Thanks.

Legitimate question I would say, as the term gets tossed around a bit and there is not a specific 80s amp schematic (around here) that I know of (though I think I've seen component values listed in a chart somewhere). Also, there may be some variations depending who you talk to, and I think it is generally thought of as more "transitional" than some other variations.
I will let others more knowledgeable add further clairification but I believe it is safe to say the 80s amp would likely be pre HRM, earilier tone stack (not Skyline) and possibly (if you are talking early enough) low value plate cathode i.e. 100K/1.5K. (HTH at least a little)

Thanks for the response.

If that is indeed the case (I have no clue whether it is or isn't), what would differentiate it from the earlier circuits?

No doubt you have noticed the other thread which addresses this and I think clears it up for the most part ...
I will put this link to it : https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.php?p=34964#34964
I think what I was refering to is clarified there. :)
