How does a 183 circuit with Musicman Iron sound?
I was asked to do a solo for a Christian music project. Here is a take I did using my Musicman Bludo that has 183 values, it started life as a 6L6 Skyline. I much prefer it this way. Amp is just sick in the room. Volume was on 2 here so not as loud as I usually record. Collings i35 on the bridge. Effects added in mix. 27pf master bright cap and decent length coax in the loop to my Bludolator. Chinese Valve Art EL34 tubes, GE ANOS short plate 12ax7 in preamp. Multi miced with a GT Condenser and Audix OM2. Celestion MC90 speaker. First recording in quite some time so still dialing in the recording technique..... oh, this is just a rough mix from me. Track not finalized, sweetened, or mixed.

Sounds great, nice timing also. Reminds me of someone with great ears who used to post here often.Audiodog wrote: ↑Fri Dec 18, 2020 11:25 pm I was asked to do a solo for a Christian music project. Woof! Yeah, not sure how I wound up with a new username! Appreciate you checking it out. Need to do some clips that really capture the room vibe. Maybe use shorter cables since the amp is darker than the 6l6 or normal plate voltage 183s. The 700v does cool stuff.

Tony, the Valve Arts are the same as the Ruby and TAD Chinese EL34s. CE has some left I believe. About 14 a tube. Once gone, they are gone..... I got a sextet so I could have a nicely matched Quad with backups... I had JJs in there before.

Tony, great playing and that is a killer sound, for sure. Love that.

Remixed the solo with different delay and verb. Less muddy in mix.
Also, a second take using my PRS guitar. The first may have a better vibe for the song, but take two had some moments. I tried to use a few of the thematic ideas I liked in take one.
Big takeaway of both is that the loop cabl3s may have been too long for the smaller bright cap in the amp. I should record a take using the shorter cables I have. Things are a bit darker on these, could be the Music Man iron.

I prefer the 2nd one. A little more clarity on the mids..Could hear it growl..

Very Nice.

All very good and nice to see you back! My hearing is pretty shot in the upper frequencies so could be that, but I think a bit brighter might sit a little better in the mix. Maybe the shorter cables will do it as you point out. I know my favorite tones playing by myself in my basement sometimes tend to get a bit lost in a band situation. That's when I lean on the bright switches or treble knob.
