Robben Ford Playing A Strat

Post by donvan »

I prefer Robben Ford's tone when he is playing his telecaster or one of his guitars with humbuckers but he still makes a strat sound pretty damn good through his Dumble.
Apparently he picked up some gigs with Michael McDonald back in the 80s. The audio quality of these videos aren't the greatest but I still found it interesting hearing what his tone sounds like playing a strat. Maybe you will to.

The 2nd clip you posted the Strat with the maple neck looks to be the same one he used when he played with Miles Davis. It has some kind of dual rail pickup of some kind in the bridge spot. Unknown how it was wired or tapped?
The ODS is 102 Before it was modded or upgraded later 90's by Alexander. It was originally a 4th generation "classic" in it's grey suede as a low plate Classic and later converted to it's current High Plate Skyliner specs.
Here is a brief rundown as told by Max in the 102 Files section

Ok, so maybe not "standard" strat style pickups.

Max's rundown is incredible!
