WTB a Triad SP-118 Inductor

Post by Abe5150 »

Can someone please sell me a Triad SP-118 inductor? I know you can use the Mesa Boogie inductor or just bridge that part of the circuit but I would love to put a Triad SP-118 in my SSS #002 build.

Thanks for that link Markus! It wasn’t cheap but now I will subliminally think my amp sounds better.

You are welcome!
Considering the price the amp will have to sound better

Ah yes. Herman bought from that link too and came in all original packaging that was crumbling as he touched it. That's a NOS beauty right there! Well worth the price.

What about the wah-wah Fasel inductors:

Yellow 640mH
Red 563mH
Black 500mH

I've had success with Dunlop Red Fasel Wah Inductors as a replacement for the Triad type(s) in SSS amps. The nominal value of those are higher than the 300mH called for in the #002 schematic, but in my experience the actual values of those Dunlop fasels vary quite widely from unit to unit. So it might take some testing and sorting for value, but given their large variance I don't think it'd be difficult to find one that measures closer to #002 spec (say in the 400mH range, or maybe closer). Sure, testing and sorting could be expensive -- but so is spending $100 on a single Triad SP-118...

100% NOS nearly odorless but with a hint of chocolate maybe, not joking here. The tape around the packaging is brittle and the closed cell foam holding the inductor in place crumbles like floral foam.

The inductor has a fiesta red color with maybe more of a dull maroon on top. It has crisp lettering which seems it may have been printed or stamped on before the part being clear coated in something. The letters appear to be beneath the clear coat. The top has a stamp on it "N 552" in my case. Maybe this is an inspection stamp or a batch stamp. The attached label with the part is very fun and has detailed information on the inductor, max altitude is 50.000 feet.

Does it affect the sound? Who knows, maybe we should focus less on NOS and more on the circuits
