Dave Cobb's Dumble Modded amp

Post by pompeiisneaks »

New video on Rig Rundown for Dave Cobb (I have no idea who he is).

But apparently he has a dumble modded fender? I'm still watching the video:

Just got to the amp that's the dumble mod, it's an ultraphonix and he said it's got a new greenback and new tubes in it... He said "He even uses new tubes" .
I wonder which ones...

the only tubes that can take it... the JJ 6v6s's
they sound ok, and the other options red plate...

Have you tried TAD STRs?

I had a pair of TAD 6v6 STR in a JM style combo build and I was happy with there performance. I had them running at 390v and biased at 20 ma and ran them for 6 hrs straight on a signal generator and they performed well and no signs of red plating.

They almost sounded like the JJ 6v6 but their mids were a slight bit less prominent then the JJs. This could be a good thing for some people.
I would buy them again. I have not tried the TAD 6L6 tubes yet .

Cheers

The amp he is talking about is a Blackface Deluxe with fixed grid bias. Any decent 6V6 would probably work fine. The Tweedle Dee, yeah that needs the JJ's.

Cool video, I had the same experience with that BF Deluxe at Dumble's house. I played it and fell in love with it, I had to have one. Alexander said "find a donor amp and I make you one". I found one, he built it and it's my favorite amp. I have a few other ones he made me since, but that little Deluxe is #1.
