Starting a Bluesmaster 100 HRM

Post by Beach247 »

Getting started on a Bluesmaster 100 HRM build and thought I'd post as I go. I'm not new to amp building but I am new to Dumbles. Relays are something I've never used so I'm sure I'll have some questions when I get to them. Here are a couple of pictures of where I'm starting from.

looking good. I've built 3 of these now.

1st one was the amp Joey Landreth used in London last year.

2:nd one was a combo and belongs to the same owner and number 1 in his studio

3rd one is still with me, the blue suede one I made with 80's peavey iron.

Marcus, now that you've used 2 different irons in the same amp design do you prefer the sound of one set of iron over the other?

I AB'd the new one of mine with the old Joey Landreth one and there's not much between them to be honest. Could be the tubes though as they've got different tubes.

Very close though.

It should have come with the correct screws. If you're NOT in the USA be careful as they're empirical threads and you could bugger up the inserts if you try putting a metric screw in there...….don't ask me how I Know this...………..:D

Empirical? Never heard of that; it sounds arbitrary. Over here we have UNC (coarse) and UNF (fine). The listed thread size for that chassis is 10-32, UNF. I have some experience with Imperial standards, like the Whitworth fasteners on my Norton. Those were odd! ;^)

sorry I meant 'Imperial' (possible auto correct error) :D but yes in Europe and most of the east too everyone uses metric system for everything so the usa thread system caught me out :D

Yes, I knew what you meant. USA standards are not the same as Imperial, though. Nudge and wink.

good point :D I haven't had much experience with US standards in my lifetime so in my mind anything that isn't metric is 'Imperial' but of course that's not the case. My father was an Engineer and so is my brother so I remember as a child the different strange threads that were used in engineering/cars etc.

my brother now is a professional vintage car restorer so still uses these mystical standards.

We've had to deal with all of them here, and still do. In my daily work I often move between F, R, C, and K for temperature, pounds mass, pounds force, slugs, kilograms, BTU, and kJ. The French I work with are steadfastly metric, but then they would be, wouldn't they? Sadly, the pints here are dispensed in US units.
