fired up this morning and low voltage on the filter caps?
using a 60 watt bulb in my 100 watt build i was getting 290v at the stand by but only 50ish volts at the filter caps? i fiddle the bias control and had a good range there i have set it at -37v. this is all with tubes not installed. one side of the standby switch is only 55volts.......hmmmm?

Set the standby switch to operate position. Any better?

Re: fired up this morning and low voltage on the filter caps?
that is with standby on......i just tried a 100 watt bulb and got 91v dc on the filter caps but also saw smoke that looked like it was coming from the filter caps board? drain resistors maybe? i get no reading when in standby only when i switch it to operate. i know.....smoke not good..... any ideas? i also did see a little smoke when i was using the 60 watt bulb. is this called burning in?

the ohm reading on the resistors still look good 220 on the f&t caps and 3.3 and 22k on the other caps. so they are still working . also know i'm new at this and only armed with my bulb limiter and fluke meter.

No, burning up! Something is wrong. In standby mode, you should only have voltage on the reservoir. In that configuration was the 60W bulb glowing brightly? Maybe post a a few pictures of the power supply area.skyripper2 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 29, 2018 5:59 pm...i also did see a little smoke when i was using the 60 watt bulb. is this called burning in?

Re: fired up this morning and low voltage on the filter caps?
one nice thing is the caps drain out after powering off quite fast .
ok so 420 volts on one side of the standby and the other is showing 91volts? this is using a 100 watt bulb limiter. any help would be valued.

Go back to the 60W bulb. When you measure 420V and 91V on the standby is it in standby or play? What schematic and or layout are you using?

no light when switched on but lit up when switched to operate and then saw smoke off of what i see is the 220 resistors on the f&t caps and even more smoke when i used the 100watt light bulb.martin manning wrote: ↑Fri Jun 29, 2018 6:15 pmNo, burning up! Re: fired up this morning and low voltage on the filter caps?
With the 60W limiter, can you power it up in standby with the bulb staying dim and no smoke? If so, what voltage do you have on the standby switch? Bias supply? Relay supply?
Pictures? Schematic? Layout?

Re: fired up this morning and low voltage on the filter caps?
thanks for helping martin......
i will go back to the sixty watt bulb . it showed 91volts only when switched from standby to on. i have a been following 124 and the Ceritone layout .

Some wiring error for sure. Post or point to the schematic and layout you are using.

Those 220Ω resistors should be 220K. (Actually 270K)

both of those say k
220k
or
270k
220 ohm means those are smoking and running all current to ground likely. Remove those and replace with either 220k 3W or 270k 3W and you'll likely be in a good spot.
