choke vs resistor

Post by rutledj »

I've noticed some of you have opted for a resistor instead of the choke. What is the benefit of doing this besides cost?

Definately ain't brighter bro.... If you are using something like 330ohm to 500ohm. If you are using a small 100ohm or so, then yeah... If you are using 3 or 4X the choke resistance it is most certainly darker. Woody yes. Smooshy yes. Brighter no...

Ick!!!

Just saying JP... The bigger the resistor, the more the screen sag. A little darker. More looseness on the bottom.

My amps have a switch to go between either choke or resistor, it is definately brighter on choke.

What size you runnin' Jim?

A choke is more efficient, less AC in the DC

470, the XTRA you know whats decrease sag a tad, ya know at 48, maybe it was another amp that produced a brighter sound w/resistor, only my dentist knows fer sure!
