D-lator ENGL mod layout
Just wanted to post this layout that I drew up from the schematic that bluesfendermanblues designed. Just to verify, I am having fantastic results with FX unit full on and only a small amount of that signal is needed to be sent to the return. This gives up the tone of just the D-lator with just enough FX mixed in that no phase issues occurs, just nice reverb/delays.
thanks again bluesfendermanblues!

Re: D-lator ENGL mod layout
Looks very interesting, thanks for posting. This is an alternate to bluesfendermanblues' MESA-based parallel loop with a blend circuit based on an ENGL design? What is the value of the dual pot?
Which bluesfendermanblues D'lator schematic did you start with... This one? https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=

Thanks, I guess I just forgot about the dual pot version!

I know, right? So much info to remember here, but always fun when found again.martin manning wrote:Thanks, I guess I just forgot about the dual pot version!

Are you using the parallel setting?
What effects are you running in the loop?

Yes. I didn't add a method to switch between S/P. As designed the pot is always in.Structo wrote:Are you using the parallel setting?
I have a gig rack that has an Intelefex LT in it and a Lexicon...LPX 2 I think that's the model number.Structo wrote:What effects are you running in the loop?
FYI I also tried a newer multiFX unit or 2 from a friends stash and even through those converters it sounded great. Since the output of my FX can be run as high as full on, it allows so little amount of FX signal to blend in. It is more or less 90% unaffected by FX but still sweetened by the D-lator.
BTW, is it just me or does everyone find that when they play the amp with no d-lator/effects it sounds unrefined with a rough "jagged" tone?

Yes and sometimes with the Dumbleator.

However, although some do not, I like a sound with some edge to it. This sounds like a Low Plate Classic with little or no HF tapering going on.

I like the rough/jagged tone, as you call it, with single coils. It brings out the best qualities for me. I like the Dlator, slightly compressed, darker tones with a Les Paul with humbuckers, for example. Every amp has something to offer and no single amp does everything well.

Yeah, tell me about it.
I was always a strat player though sometimes I cheated with a humbucker in the bridge position often, Lone Star type strat.
But I converted to mostly dual humbucker guitars after I built my ODS.
I have a switchable mod for single coil use but I just find that the amp loves humbuckers.
I can still get a passable tone with singles, by turning dials but it is a HB amp at heart.
My newest guitar is a LP and it loves this amp.

Re: D-lator ENGL mod layout
I think my observation is in error as I was listening to the amp at "people in the house" levels. Left alone in the house, I did hear less of what I didn't like as the volume got up.vibratoking wrote:I like the rough/jagged tone, as you call it, with single coils. I believe I get what you say regarding single coils. I played a strat that has single coils from the early 60's in it and I spent a lot of time with the neck pup and liked it more than normally.

I play mostly HB too, Either a 335 or les paul, depends on the gig. I always have gone into the D-lator with effects and have loved my sound. Prob just used to that set up.Structo wrote:Yeah, tell me about it.
