I got an Pawnshop Excelsior, which looks like a good platform for Tweedle Dee build given the same tube compliments and the simple controls that it has. But it is also one of the more unusual Fender designs - more like a old Gibson or Supro, and the Tremolo give it a nice vintage vibe. Since I already have an ODS clone, I am wondering if I should just leave it alone. Your advise and suggestions are welcomed...

To Tweedle or not, that's the question...

Tweedle Dee doesn't sound anything like any part of any ODS, to me
Sounds like a really nice 5E3. I dropped the first stage cathodes to 1U and sold mine to a country guy. I miss it when i hear it.

You are right, I was just generalizing, mulling over if I should do another Dumble-inspired build? You sold your Tweedle already?!Smokebreak wrote:Tweedle Dee doesn't sound anything like any part of any ODS, to me

Yep I converted one of my very first kits and it was just at the bottom of a pile, so to speak. A customer came by wanting a 5E3 something or the other and I dug it out and he loved it but asked if I could tighten it up. 1U on the cathodes and he was in love. Great lil amp. I've been threatening to do a 4x6V6 since I sold it. If you don't have a 5E3 I'd say go for it!

Other than a few parts, the Excelsior is actually pretty close to the 5E3 (again generalizing a bit), the key differences are the rectifier and of course the tremolo. Also with some added switches and pots, I can mod it to Tweedle Dee without much problem. In any case, I will play it for awhile before butchering it...Smokebreak wrote:If you don't have a 5E3 I'd say go for it!
