Issue with Belton octal tube socket solder pins

Post by Charlie Wilson »

Hello, I recently decided to try 5.1k grid stoppers in my low plate classic to replace the 1.5k. I have the flying buss bar grid stoppers and in replacing the resistors I noticed that the tube socket solder pins wiggled around a bit. I lightly touched them and two of them broke off. So now I have to replace two of my power tube sockets. I don't think that I manhandled them that much. Maybe you should not bend the solder tabs at all? Anybody else have issues with cracking or breaking solder tabs on these sockets.

Has happened once to me. Wiggling is not a problem, because the socket pins should be a little loose to accommodate the tube's pins. But the metal can fatigue quickly if bent multiple times.
I build and repair tube amps. http://amps.monkeymatic.com
