D style Tweed

Post by dcribbs1412 »

Sorry to add to the flood of tweed builds
the all look and sound great(the one with clips)
I was a little concerned because I kinda liked my tweed build
but decided to update it and see (had most parts on hand)
Using the older MC iron MAG-6452 PT and the MC TF-110 041318 OT
with a JJ GZ34 I had around 420 Volts
I used zeners to drop B+ 20 volts or so. Now voltages are
B+1 401
B+2 356
B+3 310
B+4 286
V1 is around 170-175 Volts
V2 is 258 and 202, 19.8 volts
10 k trimmer is at 3.6k
Not sure if Charlie is tired of hearing it but,
Thanks, I very much appreciate you sharing info about this circuit. 8)

I never get tired of looking at nice guitar builds and this looks great!
Tweeds are great, the more the better.
Music needs good old real sounds.

Nice! Any idea if the zeners to lower voltage have any effect on tone/feel? I might have to do the same.

looks good like it should. How do you like the PEC pots.
Good idea on the zeners. You may want to try a matched 12AX7
in V-1.

will try to get some sort of clips

I noticed the feel of the circuit change right away, not sure the voltages
had too much affect after that. Are your voltages a little high?. I would give the zeners a try. ..Sounds like a line to sell zeners.
I did read that Jelle used a similar PT and got voltages close to the original D tweed. So some experiment with tubes may yield closer voltages without zeners.

I am running a set of older Ken-RAD VT 107 tubes and found a
more balanced ax7 172-173V on V1. PEC pots are from previous build
they seem fine, would probably use CTS if PEC were not on hand.

Not sure I have the trimmer set right
(original has a 3.3V difference) I have 3.9-7.3(3.4V difference)
are you guys balancing voltages
or getting close and going by feel?
Probably splitting hairs just wanted any suggestions.

Thanks
