Re: And yet another Tweedle Dee Deluxe...
Nice! I'm looking forward to a clip or two, and hopefully one with a Les Paul.

That is sweet. I wish I had time for one now, but I have to wait. I'd love to hear clips...especially demonstrating the CLEAN to mean, emphasis on clean.

Re: And yet another Tweedle Dee Deluxe...
Thanks guys. Here is a rough (with an emphasis on rough) clip. I haven't had time yet to mess with the PI trimmer or tweak anything. This is a les paul copy with Alinico 2 pickups straight in the bright input 1 with Vol 1 and Vol 2 up all the way and tone at noon. G1265 speaker. Volume changes are at the guitar.
I recorded this on the computer and threw a little delay on it (after recording it), but it is otherwise just a SM7b mic straight on the speaker with an open back cab.
Spare me on my sucky playing (it is really bad these days)! All this hype without clips has been bugging me, so I'll humble myself on this one so you guys can hear the circuit.
The amp is ok. It is better than a stock 5E3, but it doesn't blow me away. It has a bit more gain, but nothing over the top.
Oh yeah, I used the classictone transformer set and the voltage is way high (428v), so I ended up using a 5y3s rectifier to bring it down. I haven't played it with the GZ34 yet.

Re: And yet another Tweedle Dee Deluxe...
Nothing wrong at all with your playing.
I dig it. Still sounds very 5E3 to me, but improved, if that makes any sense. I think I'll be building one soon.
Re: And yet another Tweedle Dee Deluxe...
Thanks. That's how it sounds & feels in the room. Kind of like a 5E3+. It definitely has the 5E3 feel to it. I'm thinking a nice boost out front might be fun with this one, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet.Blackburn wrote:Nothing wrong at all with your playing.I dig it. Ditto. My playing sucks too, if that was what that was.Blackburn wrote:Nothing wrong at all with your playing.I dig it. Still sounds very 5E3 to me, but improved, if that makes any sense. I think I'll be building one soon.
Do you think the dynamics are about the same? A little less clean headroom in trade for a little more gain, or is there more of a spread?
I heard that familiar Tweed Deluxe "burn" that I love about those circuits. I'm wonderingwhat it would sound like with the inputs bridged with volume1 at about 3:00 and volume two dimed. I am digging that tone, but I have to admit that I am a sucker for that you're if tone.
Thanks for posting the clip. You've piqued my curiosity a bit more. Now I'm wondering what it would sound like with octal preamp tubes and my Tele.

Nothing wrong with your playing sounds like a really good 5e3

Well, Tony you were right. The with the inputs jumped and the PI trimmer adjusted to maximum bloom, the amp really sings. It makes it fun to play (I'm a whore for a bit of gain). I'm out for the evening, but I'll see if I can get a clip together tomorrow with this setup - it is definitely more fun to play this way.
Re: And yet another Tweedle Dee Deluxe...
Looks good sounds good
can't wait to hear your next sample.
It does sound in the same ballpark as mine.
I guess I should wait a bit before posting mine or we'll get the page filled solely with Tweedle Ds.
I dug out an RFT ECC83 which is rather low gainish, but seems to work well for taming the gain and bringing up definition in v1.
Call it blasphemy, but I went through JJs 6v6s, NOS GE JAN and TADs sets and ended up using russian NOS 6p6s from '67. These seem to sound best to my ears....

Your build looks great and enjoyed the clip.
I think finding a good matching speaker is key with my build.

Thanks for posting this clip!!
My PT just came in a few moments ago. Now all I need is time to put it in.
Charlie, does this one sound like the one you had at your shop?

Re: And yet another Tweedle Dee Deluxe...
After several weeks, I am really loving this amp. With a Timmy and a touch of delay out front, it absolutely smokes. Beauty in simplicity I guess...
