Umble pedal?

Post by 3kings89 »

did any of you've used the Umble pedal which is supposed to be a dumble sound into a pedal? Runoffgroove.com
I use heavy strings, tune low, play hard and floor it. Floor it. That's technical talk.

FWIW, Robben Ford and Larry Carlton are both using the Hermida Zendrive, Last time I saw Robben he was using the Zen and a couple of reissue twins, he still sounded like robben! I just got one today, so I'll have to give the report tomorrow!

I had a howie for about 5 days and sold it, you really had to turn the amp up loud for it to sound near correct, otherwise it sounds like a fuzz.

Haven't heard the umble.

Check out this thread on The Gear Page.

I predict you'll be quite impressed. Pedal in final dev. stages right now.

Looks cool! I'll await the clips. Is Robbie a member here? Maybe we can get him to discount some of these!!!

There are a LOT of pages in that thread. However, there ARE clips embedded in there, so look for them and listen.

Again, I'm quite sure you'll be impressed.

Thanks for posting that link. I did not have time to go find it while at work!

In the Soundclick list, "BO" means Boutique Overdrive - the pedal under consideration.

OK, had a chance to test drive the Zendrive last night....WOW!!!!

I've never played a pedal SO responsive to pick attack, and it had that familliar Squack, honk, and chirp, the best $179 I EVER spent!!!

I can drag my little amps out and still get my tone!

Highly Reccommended!!!

$179?

That was the good ol' days. I don't think you can touch one for that anymore. If you have a source, let me know - really.

Getting back to the topic at hand.. the Umble pedal.

I bought one of these kits - I was curious.

As kits go, it's fairly complicated but it should be a snap for anyone on the board. And it's a nice kit, price is RIGHT! - my only complaint about the kit is that there's no mounting for the PC board and battery, they're just floating in the box.

I'd never tried any of these tube simulation using FET pre-amp clones before. I was really curious how well they work. So, on the plus side, it actually does work. It's not a bad sounding pedal. (a bit noisy, as Gary mentions in the description on runoffgroove.com) but not seriously noisy.

On the minus side, the designers should have consulted this board before implementing the pedal IMHO. It's a non-HRM that's been streamline for OD only, but I think they made some mistakes (consulted the wrong schematics) and poor choices in their simplification. It's sort of Dumble-esque, but misses the mark. I hear some potential. My own HRM amp project has kept me from spending a lot of time with the Umble pedal, but I plan to revisit it and make some mods to see if it can be improved.

OT - First post here. This board is fantastic! Thanks Dogears for pointing me at it. Take care all!

OB.

www.olcircuits.com (Officially Licensed Circuits).

A fellow named Mark (in Texas I think) runs a pedal kit sales business as a one man show. I've heard nothing but praise for the guy and I had no complaints about his service either.
