Stands for "Hot Rubber Monkey" mod. Don't know the whole history of it but basically it refers to a pre-amp with a second tone stack in a Dumble ODS. Look at the ODS-101 schematics in the files section.

There are lots of abbrevaitions associated with Dumbles, amp building and electronics. Best thing to do is just read all the post and a lot of it will become clear. Someone has posted a list of the common acronyms i believe.

Ummmm I know It's called the Hot Rubber Monkey, but do you think it's a coincidence that it could also stand for "Hot Rodded Marshall?"

Blues Master is another........BM Could stand for BassMan.... How original!!!

If you map out the frequency response of an amp with the "Skyline" mod on a spectrum analizer it just so hapens that it looks like the "Skyline" of a big city.

no, but I have put pink noise into one and looked at the response. If you are "Somebody" Dumble gives a full report of the frequency response of his amps, complete with charts and graphs!

I use my ears!

Oh, and you can also use the tone stack calculator from duncan amps to see what I'm talking about, although it's only close.

I would bet that "Hot Rodded Marshall" came first and then after a late night of certain creativity enhancing substances, "Hot Rubber Monkey" emerged from the haze.

as far as ears vs spectrum analyzer - I'll take my ears anytime. Case in point: A Yamaha PM-3000 (very high end live mix desk at one time) looks great on paper but is very sterile sounding IMHO. Give me a Soundcraft with 2 mid sweeps. got to use your ears...

Doesn't everything look like a city skyline through a spectrum analyzer? :D

Oh, i'd imagine it kind of does, I was mostly commenting on the overall esoteric sillyness of the whole thing.
