Lower Wattage Transformer Question
I would like to build a lower wattage Dumble either a #124 or Bluesmaster design. I'd like to make it somewhere around 15 to 20 or even 30 watts. I'm not sure what type of a transformer to use for PT or OT. Would I have to make any circuit changes? Also, will I still be able to use 6L6's if the wattage is dropped or can this be done at all and still have a good sounding Dumble clone?
Re: Lower Wattage Transformer Question
Oh man there are so many transformers to choose from.
Fender Blackface Deluxe set for around 25w with 6V6's.
Allen Amps has great options to piece together a low wattage transformer set too.

With the 25 watts, will the 6v6's be more suited for the lower wattage or could I still use 6L6's adequately?M Fowler wrote:Oh man there are so many transformers to choose from.

Re: Lower Wattage Transformer Question
You can use 6L6GC tubes but no more wattage is achieved but you may like the tone over the 6V6 tubes it's a matter of tonal taste.
Re: Lower Wattage Transformer Question
The general consensus is that a big part of what makes a Dumble a Dumble is the 100 watt power amp. This is especially true in the 124 and Bluesmaster circuits. Messing with the formula creates different results, not bad but different.wattsup wrote:I would like to build a lower wattage Dumble either a #124 or Bluesmaster design. Here's a member's take on a lower wattage version:

There are lots of hybrids and variations member have worked through, also the generation 2-3 amps are 50 watts with bassman iron.
If you want a "real" Dumble but just with lower wattage investigate the combination of the Amp + Dumbleator.
Have fun!

Or build the Brown Note Dlite or order a Ceriatone Lunchbox kit or parts only to build your own.
