#002 SSS -- Missing resistor

Post by ic-racer »

I just started to look at the #002 materials. Looks like there are multiple threads and builds. I have not read them all yet but I don't see any discussion of the discrepancy between the hand drawn schematic and the picture where the reverb LEVEL pot connects to the board.
Looks like a resistor in parallel with the capacitor.
Has anyone else noticed this?

IC,

There's reverb send and return, which both go to the reverb board. "Level" refers to the amps master and this appears to be what you are showing in the picture.

I agree, it does look a tad suspicious but the hand drawn schematic and Aaron's layout don't have a resistor here. If it's any consolation, my build which is based on these documents just has the cap and it sounds awesome!

Hi ic,

If this is your next build I can't wait to see how this turns out!

Maybe Bill could help out with a better res picture?

It could be goop holding the cap down. The .1uf cap from the mixer cathode to the reverb driver looks like it has black goop sticking out from the side.

Also, are you sure that's from the reverb level and not going to the master?

Cheers,

OK that is what I was wondering. So that is an overall LEVEL and not related to the reverb. Thank you on that.

Better pictures available??

Yes the "level" is a master volume. The "bright" switch coming off the master is really a Presence switch and has a huge impact on the tone of the amp. So much so that I may put a pot in there.

Because these amps are uncharted water they are a lot of work, I just got mine working and will updating my build thread soon. They are pretty awesome!

Ok, now that I look at it more, it does seem like the leads are actually from the orange capacitor which is tipped slightly to the side, and there may be a glob of silicone under the capacitor.
