Riken 1/2W for Plate Resistors?

Post by Frostbite Slim »

Would using 1/2W Rikens for plate load resistors be risky in a D-type amp? I've got a stash of the blue Rikens.

Sure, very little current there.

I have used them a few years ago. Nice sounding. But I prefer Rn65s for plates.

Good to hear. I was gonna use the Rikens since I have those one hand. Yes, I've read that many builders prefer the RN65s for Plate and Cathode positions.

I'm interested in how the Rikens will perform.

I'm with you, try different things and see how they sound. The amp I'm building I decided to try standard 1W carbon film. If I don't like it, I'll change it.

FYI, dumble used rn65s on the low plate amps for Rp only. The high plate used a variety of metal films. He never used rn65 for Rk.

FWIW The new RN65's sound IMO!!.. Different than the older ones Dumble used in most of his 80's amps..Although he didn't use them in the RK spot he did like to use a kind of 1% precision resistor in some earlier amps..Not a bad idea...Always measure them!!
