SSS Filters vs OR F.A.C.S.+HF drive

Post by Mr Wright »

Hopefully someone can satisfy my curiosity and/or alleviate my ignorance.

How do the F.A.C.S. knob and High Fequency Drive on an older Orange differ from the high and low filters on the Dumble SSSs? I know both involve an inductor and, apart from the HF drive, multi position switches. The F.A.C.S. uses caps and I think the filters are resistors, but what is going on with the two different setups?

The FAC, or Bass Boost as found on earlier Matamps is just a variable coupling cap. I have not studied the SSS, but I think it's more complex than that (I think maybe both filters use inductors??). That's about the extent of my knowledge on the subject, but either way, apples to Oranges ;)

Thanks guys.

My first build had 4 knobs and the second will have 8 (in front anyways), so I'm on the hunt for what all to have in the third.

Well, FAC is very useful and simple, but take a tip from MATAMP and put it between te first and second stages where it will be more effective.
