Minimix, no dumbleator follow-up

Post by Bob-I »

I was finally able to try this rig last night.

My setup was...

Guitar > volume pedal > joyo British od > boss chorus > input

Loop...

Volume pedal (250k) > TC nova delay > digitec looper > minimix with alesis microverb > return

The amp is a 100 watt bluesmaster in a Brandon chassis, MM iron. 1x12 combo with hellatone 60.

The clean side couldn't have been better, warm and fat, plenty of shimmering highs as well. With the Joyo dialed in for just a little crunch it sounded amazing.

The OD side was disappointing at first. I set the first gain at 12:00 and the second at 2:00, exactly like I use at home. Turned out to be way too much gain and it sounded thin and buzzy.

I dropped the gains to 10:00 on both and it sounded far better, but still too buzzy. I'll need to tweak the HRM to balance out the clean/OD eq.

Overall the use of the minimix without the dumbleator was a success. I have never understood the need for the dumbleator other than to buffer the effects. I have build several dumble style amps and they all sound great. The minimix allows exactly what I need, removing any coloration the effects in the loop might give, especially with cheep units like the microverb.
