Tweed BluezMeister with active FX loop.

I've seen some threads about small Dumblish style amps in Princeton Reverb size cabs, but I don't know if I've seen a thread about building one into a small "tweed style chassis".

The TBM is in a 18.5" X 6.5" X 2.5" 18 watt style open end chassis. I actually cut the 20" length down to 18.5"

This amp combo is about the size of a 5E3 combo amp.

5E3 = 20" x 8.5" x 16.5"
TBM = 20.25" x 9.5" x 17"

However, it has clean/OD, PAB, & midboost. And they are all relay foot switchable.

It also has on board an active FX loop. I left out the LNFB around the 2nd triode and I changed some of the component values. The FX loop recovery is essentially my master volume and works quite well, IMO.

What I am trying to do is convey that I have ALOT going on in a very small chassis ............ AND the relay boards are super quiet. They were very very easy to wire up and I actually built a relay power supply board that I mounted on L brackets on the open side of the amp.

The combo amp is so quiet at idle that I can almost not hear it & yet when I hit a chord, it's VERY LOUD with 6L6's in it. I think it would be easy to walk into a room with the amp on and perhaps not hear it at all with it on either clean or OD?

This is a very convenient "grab & go" amp that has a cleaner tone than the 5E3 and waaayyy more overdrive on the OD channel. It has a very clear tone (whether on clean or OD) and has nice sustain and blooming.

I am using a Texas Heat (Emminence speaker).

Very nice amp.

Mojo sells blank 5E3 size chassis with two different sized PT cutouts your option. No other holes so that would work great for a project like this one.

That mojotone chassis is 14&5/8" X 4&1/4" X 2&5/8". Not sure that the 4&1/4" would be enough to get the relay switching in?

VS the TBM chassis 18.5" X 6.5" X 2.5" The chassis is totally packed out with components. No unused real estate in it.

I used a blank 18w chassis off ebay that was only $20.

A quick take. Poor quality recording. I didn't get the mic volume set right and it's a little garbled.

Some EQ, very light compression and slight delay in mix.

Clean and then (at 57 sec) the OD set with a very light OD.

Guitar volume was at 7. Amp volume was at 5. OD trim at 4, OD drive at 3, OD level at 4. Emminence Texas Heat speaker. No PAB or midboost on.

Thank you 10thTx, notes are round and clear on the clean side, just a touch of delay too much for me to get a more accurate picture of the amp's capabilities, the doubled notes confuse my senses!

On the overdrive side, you are right, it's very slight, but so far seems to be coming along nicely. If you don't mind, and if you have time, maybe you could give us a more raw sound (no effects). Never the less, thank you kindly for your time and effort.

OK, I agree that the delay is waaayy too much on that previous. I listened to it today with headphones instead of the tiny computer speakers.

I did this one yesterday also. One take. Recording mic still wasn't set correctly, but perhaps it does a better job demo-ing the clean and slight OD settings. It has almost no delay on it (til 2:06).

I admit that the playing and recording is only "OK" at best. The amp honestly sounds much richer and warmer in person.

I have a 12AY7 in both V1 and V2 and a 12AV7 in V3 (FX loop). Putting a 5751 in V2 adds ALOT more OD, but that's not what I was going for. I was using DiMarzio Cruiser pickups which are a low output strat style bucker.

Sounds very nice! I am partial to the tones in amps without LNFB at V1. The seem way more open and clear. Very cool tones..... Congrats.

Just an update on this amp. I changed the mid and bass caps in the tone stack and added a 220k/500p into V2-7.

I decided to include a photo of the inside of the chassis. I was very hesitant to do this given how messy it is. However, keep in mine this amp chassis has under gone 4 very different amps being built into it. Despite the mess, it is actually quieter at idle then the original Princeton Reverb I had.
