Omron 5v relay - suitable socket
Hi
Does anyone know the correct sockets for the Omron5V sockets?
I have spent a good hour searching here and at Mouser but no luck.
I think I prefer to solder the socket to the jborders board rather than the relay directly.
Thanks

Re: Omron 5v relay - suitable socket
Hoffman amp parts carries nice relay sockets for the OMRON 5V. You take a pair of pliars and gently press out the unused pins.

You may not need this, but there is some useful info & photos and schematics and layouts on relay switching here:
http://www.el34world.com/projects/relay_switch.htm
http://www.el34world.com/Forum/index.php?topic=14348.0
And it looks like Hoffman will start carrying relay power supply boards and relay boards as mentioned in this thread:

See reply #52 on the 2nd page.

Re: Omron 5v relay - suitable socket
I used the same kind of socket for my relays. It's just a 16 pin dip socket. Be careful not to order the leaf-type as I'm not sure if those would work as well. I just clipped the unused pins. I didn't even think of trying to pull them out.
Hoffman's a great place to get stuff. The last time bought parts from him they were shipped out within 15 minutes of me placing the order.

Re: Omron 5v relay - suitable socket
Great, really helpful advice as always

How does this one look, I don't think the photo is right but the spec seems fine.

Re: Omron 5v relay - suitable socket
Hi Guys,
Doug Hoffman here.
I am working on a relay board design and relay power supply board with Andy at Mojo musical.
The boards are being approved this week and then they go into production.
I don't have anything to show you right now except some prototypes I cut out on my CNC machine.
The production boards will be for 1-single relay.
These production boards will look much nicer than my prototype boards
You can install a relay socket and then plug in a 5volt coil low signal DPDT Omron relay into the relay socket.
There's a thread on my forum for more info on all of this including some pics.

Re: Omron 5v relay - suitable socket
I like and have used the Omron relays in builds.
You need to watch which ones that you use though.
I have had to reverse the polarity on the diode for them to work on
the last build. Must be a different designation on the part numbers.
Got that one at Rat Shack.
Nice work on the boards Doug.

Relay boards...
Hi Doug.
I see 6.3vac markings. Can these be powered from the filament winding,
or wll a separate filament transformer be required?
Do you stock the components?
Thanks.
Bob

Re: Omron 5v relay - suitable socket
Hi Bob,
That's what the relay power board does
It supplies 5 volts DC to the relay coils that it creates from the 6.3vac heater taps.
Look at the diagram above
The 6.3vac heater wires connect to the power supply on the left side
The 5 volts DC comes out on the right side
Guys on my forum are powering 4 of the Omron low signal DPDT relays using this sort of power supply.
The 7805 voltage regulator keeps the voltage real steady.
I stock the relays, relay sockets, diodes, bridge, 4700uf/16v cap, 7805 voltage regulator, turret lugs
Most all of the parts are on this page
http://www.hoffmanamps.com/MyStore/catalog/parts20.htm
The final boards won't be available for a couple weeks or more
I have more relay switching info in my tube amp library here
http://www.el34world.com/projects/relay_switch.htm
The image below is the schematic for my power supply

Re: Omron 5v relay - suitable socket
Although I haven't advertised, I still have about 18 DPDT relay boards and 7 regulated 5VDCpower supplies remaining from the last run. Assembled and ready to rock. If there is enough interest, I will do another run. The relay board will comply to CE and other chassis relay board hole dimensions.

Re: Omron 5v relay - suitable socket
Sorry, did not mean to hi-jack this thread
To the OP, I stock the relay sockets you are talking about for the 16 pin Omron relays.
----------------------------------------------------------------
I got the laser cut boards from Andy at Mojo today
The boards are cut to make sure all the parts fit as I designed them to
He just uses some black board material, it's not pc board material
There's a couple things I need him to correct and then we are good to go.
The relay board was only .75 inches wide.
It was supposed to be .9 inches wide so that you had room enough to wrap wires around the turret lugs.
So I am having him re-do the width on the relay board to .9 inches
I am having him move the Ac lugs on the power supply board farther away from the bridge
One lug is really close to one of the Ac holes
The two holes far left on the relay board are for a diode
Here's a shot with the laser cut boards and parts added

Thanks, now I have been shown what the right ones are I added some to my Mouser order and also ordered some from eBay UK for a back up.

Re: Omron 5v relay - suitable socket
Sorry to butt in again but I said I would post back when the new relay boards were in stock.
Just got the Single relay board and Relay power supply boards today and they look really nice.
I added public parts list so you can add all the parts that go on these boards with one button
Here's the link to the channel switching page where the relay boards can be found

Good to know we still have a few sources for relay boards. Thanks.

Rog, those sockets will fine! Just clip or push out the unwanted pins.
