What year was ODS #183 built?

Post by David Root »

I searched for this but came up empty.

I have an opportunity to pick up a Magic Parts TF-170 OT which it would be nice to change out the Mag Components one in my 183 with. But I know Magic Parts changed manufacturers at least once and I want to make sure I get the right one!

Can anyone help me out? I looked for pics of #183 and couldn't find any.

David, #183 used a Pacific-TMI made #1052 EIA code OPT.
The Later Magic Parts transformers changed to Thordarsen EIA code #238

Too bad HAD doesn't sign and date his chassis.

He probably has the serial numbers recorded, I'll call him and ask...:D

The thing is by all reports he would sometimes not finish a build but finish later numbered amps so the serial numbers don't necessarily define a date.

To illustrate, #182 is HRM 6L6.

Don't let that smoke out!

Tom, AFAIK he signed and dated many of his chassis (see attached picture). And the date codes on parts (electrolytic caps, transformers, potentiometers etc.) provide at least the information when at the earliest he finished an amp.
