D-lator S/P, TC G sharp

Post by wavetuner »

It seems the dumblelator has a lot of unpopulated real estate to me (in 19" form). There are some good posts on adding a parallel adaption mix /switch to the Dlator and recently a well informed response to me of possibly mudding up the serial loop with series effects devices such as the TC G sharp. The thread went on to suggest the Minimax and some nice alternatives I listened to.

What are the successes failure of this scenario? The Ford TC box is out of my $ range. I like the sounds of the G sharp on a budget and I am building a D-lator anyway. Thanks for all the great documentation and suggestions!

Perhaps I'll try out the Providence Chrono as an esteemed member recommended. Anybody use one with an with Skyliner ODS100 high plate 102?

Do you currently have a G Sharp?

That is what I use for a always on/ ambient delay and reverb.

If you set the G Sharp to Parallel on the front panel, it actually sounds pretty good with the series Dumbleator.

I drew that layout for the parallel D'lator and I did try it for a while.
In my opinion it just doesn't work that well.
However the bypass switch is a good feature when something isn't right and you need to figure out where the problem is.

I was intrigued by the MiniMix II and parallel loops thinking that keeping the dry and wet separate was the way to go.
Well I couldn't afford the MiniMix but I did get a Xotic X-Blender.

It seemed to clean up the tone just a bit.
But the real deal maker is to have complete control over the amount of delay/ reverb in the mix. It has a large knob you can twist with your foot.

So I set the G Sharp (which sits on the amp) to full wet, and that goes into the X-Blender loop, then my other effects like Chorus, EHX Stereo Memory Man go into the Dumbleator.
Works pretty good but if I had to I could still survive without the X-Blender.

Anyway, YMMV

I use a Providence chrono with a 102 and 183 type amp (Skyliner/High plate 100w), and its literally the best sounding Delay ever if you're going for 2290 type sounds. No need for a MiniMix II because it converts a serial FX Loop to Parallel.

I also dug the sound of a G sharp and a MiniMix II, it got pretty close to the 2290 type delay's.

If your building a rack D-lator either will be suffice... then again I've seen guys cram a D-lator in a small enough package to put in the back of a headcase no prob

Thanks for the great reply's. I am committed to building a D-lator in the rack form -never know what that real estate could be used for. Gator makes a 2U case that is not much more than a brief case and pretty bullet proof. I also like the idea of having a purpose built D like head to stack the size if perfect for that! I really appreciate the experiences with this issue ;-)
