Sounds pretty tweedish, did you get to play it?
Re: Dumble Angels Breath?
Did it sound heavenly?
Apparently Robben had one in the studio.
From Robben's tech Daved:
"Here is an exact quote from Alexander when I mentioned the continued interest in the Angel's Breath amp to him yesterday:"
""The best thing to tell the fans about the Angel's Breath amps is that they will never be released to the general public. They are entirely secret and
only for use in professional studio situations by the likes of Robben, Larry, Bruton, and a couple of others that I can't even disclose their names."
So hush, hush on the QT.

Re: Dumble Angels Breath?
Yes it only took 30 years to fall into view and a bit of change.

Re: Dumble Angels Breath?
Jelle makes an SSS called Angel's Breath. I thought it was an SSS with an overdrive circuit added, but maybe it's something else. Or just a name coincidence. It is a great name for an amp!
This one does sound tweedy. The 5R4 is the Rodney Dangerfield of the rectifier tube family IMO. It should get much more respect. I think it has better tone than the 5U4 and a bit more compression too. I have two of them (RCA WWW II military 5R4G) in my lo-power Twin build and love 'em. Also use Tung-Sol 5881s in that amp.
Unless you meant "5AR4" !
Eric--a new Holy Grail amp! You are seditious! Oh no, my (grail) cup runneth over! I wonder where HAD put the elderberries and the shrubbery??

In a french accent "HAD already has a grail! I fart in your general direction!"David Root wrote: Eric--a new Holy Grail amp! You are seditious! Oh no, my (grail) cup runneth over! I wonder where HAD put the elderberries and the shrubbery??
An interesting aside; "The surname Dumble is believed to be of Norman origin and a corruption of the name Donville, a village in Normandy, brought to England by followers of William the Conqueror who came from there."
Actually the most elusive of HAD's designs can't even be spoken about. It is a variation of the Ultraphonix, called HookedOnPhonix.
He hasn't even built it yet, because there hasn't been a musician born yet worthy of the design. It's designed to be used with electric lute, but has a switch so it also can be used with bagpipes.
It also has a crock/spazz switch.

KWS's Tweed is a Tweedle Dee. There is only one Angels Breath amp Alexander made and he still has it.andyhardy wrote:I wish I could have played one it sounds

Re: Dumble Angels Breath?
OK, here's a guess!
Two Tung-Sol 5881s, 250 ohm cathode resistor, bypassed, about 350V plates and 300 screens. 4K primary on OT. Variable GNFB.
Cathodyne PI.
SSS type V1 with LNFB from V2A plate to V1A and V1B cathodes with V1A as Channel 1 and V1B as Channel 2. V2B is the inverter.
Could be Class A1 instead, no bypass cap on the cathode bias resistor, no GNFB. That would be "sweet!"

I remember Alexander talking about this type of amp, don't think he is doing them anymore. Now just focusing on big money quick mods the Ultra stuff. He is refusing to make amps for people I sent him as well. Must be nice to turn down 20K amps

Re: Dumble Angels Breath?
John, glad you posted, hate to hijack the thread, but can you tell me anything about the "Linear Tremolo?"
The web site looks like something from the eighties, but he claims you've install some.
Also, what is up with the BPSC?

Re: Dumble Angels Breath?
husky, Is the Angel Breath one of the amps that Stephen Bruton recorded with? Stephen is one of my all time favorite singer songwriter guitar players. I'm after that kind of tone. More so than RF, Carlton and others.
Re: Dumble Angels Breath?
What is this UHOP mod I would love to try it on a BF Bassman. It is a variation of the Ultraphonix, called HookedOnPhonix.
I'm going to IHOP I'll be right back.
