Rob Madden "Odyssey Special" (ODS?)

Post by FuzzFaceBuilder »

I was digging around the interwebs, reading anything on "tubes-up" HAD amps and came across the photos of Rob Maddens Dumble amps. He has an Odyssey, an amp he calls an "Odyssey Special" and an ODS. I was wondering if there is any more info regarding this "Odyssey Special", that is (mis)labeled as Odyssey #006 HERE.

As blurry as the picture is, it looks like it's "pre-Starve" and there's no "Manual/Pedal" switch between the tone stack and OD pot.

Any help/info would be greatly appreciated!

Sure isn't one of HAD's better looking amps.

Yeah this Odyssey Special is a Clean only amp, sorta like a Small Special (ODS clean side) but with the Pwr amp of a Dumble Land.

Rob Madden has some other one off amps and an Overdrive Special too

Wow, and and a ODS hold the goop!!!

Were these documented in Rob Lively's archive of files? Any ideas on the serial numbers?

A master list of all known Dumbles would make a great sticky for this forum. Is anyone maintaining such a thing?

An "Odyssey Special" is very likely my next build. Boldaslove6789, do you have any clearer photos of the Odyssey Special or anything else that'll help in building an Odyssey Special of my own?

That would be great. I found this when I was attempting to date my Hammond a100, wouldnt it be cool to have a similar list for dumbles!

Moving ahead with the "Odyssey Special" build.

Working on the front panel with the assumption that this is the standard 19.5" chassis, how far apart are the ground/power/standby/pilot light? My best estimation is 1" between switches starting from the far right . What say you? Jon, how far apart are the power switches of your Small Special?

Thanks,
Hale

If this is a "clean only" amp without OD, then IMO the two small controls on the front panel of this "Odyssey Special" will most probably be the filter controls known from the Dumblelands and SSSs e.g. And judging from the kind and size of the PT and the OT and the number and size of preamp and power amp tubes, the power amp of this "Odyssey Special" IMO seems to be a 100W Odyssey power amp and not the power amp of a 150W Dumbleland.

So if its a "clean only amp", then IMO it will most probably be a combination of a
bright, deep, guitar/mic (rock/ jazz), treble, bass, high filter, low filter preamp with an
100W Odyssey (12AU7 inverter / 12BH7 driver) power amp with level control and accent switch.

But this is just speculating based on the "clean only amp" info and what can be seen on the pictures of this "Odyssey Special". I don't know this amp.

Cheers,

Max
