Function Generator Kit

Post by Structo »

Hey,
I thought I would mention this simple kit which I bought
and built.

Made by Elenco for $30

You can build this in one evening.

I know it works because I hooked up a tiny speaker but I haven't tried it yet with my scope.

I think eventually I will change out the DC jack to a barrel type so I can use a pedal wall wart to power it when the battery is down.

Everybody that has a scope probably already have a function generator but I thought I would mention this because I thought it was a good deal.

One thing that I screwed up on, when soldering in the electrolytics , they are radial caps and you are supposed to bend the leads 90 degrees so the cap is installed laying down.
I failed to do that on the large cap and it wouldn't allow the faceplate to mount, so I had to buy another 1000uF 25v cap and redo it....

I have one of them as well. The sine wave generated is ok for basic troubleshooting but not really clean enough for observing real details.

I use the NCH software function generator on my PC. Works great, but of course is not portable unless you use a laptop.

Not even on the lower end of the spectrum? :( That's too bad, I am looking for an evening project and I think I need to retire my HP tube function generator. :)

Cheers,

Gil

Errrr, I didn't want to hear that!

I wonder why it wouldn't be clean since it uses a IC to generate the waves?

Now I need to figure out how to use my new to me scope....
