When Were These Sprague 6PS Cases Used?
Just got these and I'm curious as to the age of the clear plastic cases these caps are packed in. Since they're identified as Difilm (paper/mylar), I'm thinking '70s. Five .1 uF/600V 6PS for the price of one these days ($1.35) seems to fit!
I realize the age of the case is no guarantee as to age of contents, but the caps are all dipped not powder baked like they are now.
The .047 caps might be later than the .1, as they (.047) are a brighter color than the 0.1s.
I know the paper/mylar gave way to all mylar (polyester? at some stage, just not sure when.
Any 6PS historians out there?

Well when I was a young man I was clipping those OD caps out of black and white televisions sets at the city dump. So 60's/70's.

Draloric resistors...now old school 6PSs...

A nefarious plot to do a #4 ODS, #40 or maybe a #60 without reverb, using some old 50W Fender iron and as many other period correct parts as possible.
I am also plotting to put it in this cabinet.

Guys, I can't claim credit for Skeptical Dog. I saw that on DamnLOL.com and laughed my ass off. I keep that photo for times like these (and laugh every time I see it).
Sounds like a great project David! Can't wait to see it develop and I'm sure you'll top it off with vintage glass too. Rock on!

Thank you TM! I really thought so.
Those caps and Mepco Electra/Electra metal films on V1, V2 plates/cathodes and Piher/Draloric carbon films elsewhere.

That's it! Love the variant on the OD entrance with the 680K plus 500K(?) trimpot replacing the 1M2. I have some EM-ARCO chocolate drops and a very few CDE ditto. Those CDE are very difficult to find.
Have you posted that 2nd gen amp before? If so I musta missed it.

I believe all the "di-films" are paper and foil layered rather then metalized foil.

David the trimmer is a 1meg and i'll never build another "funky OD entrance" without that tweak. Yes, it was my last build which was my take on #004 if it was upgraded to a 4th gen transitional classic stack.David Root wrote:That's it! Smart thinking! I wonder if that tweak is present in all Dumble 4the gen amps? Easy to go under the board.ToneMerc wrote:David the trimmer is a 1meg and i'll never build another "funky OD entrance" without that tweak. David can you explain what you mean by the caps being dipped or powder baked?
I haven't heard that before.
