Mr. Welagen, how'd ya do it?

Post by Gaz »

If you don't mind, I was wondering if you could tell me how you mounted the radials in this picture?

It looks like you just drilled two small holes for the leads, but I'm not sure if there's anything going on to keep them solid.

Pleeeeeeeeeeease?

Thanks!

Thanks, Jelle! Yeah, I still can't see the eyelets, but I believe you  Good to know you put some RTV to hold em down - I'm always looking for ways to make radials work in 'PTP' layouts, and the PS board in your amp looks really slick. Thanks again.

Maybe Jelle does it the way I've done it, using both 3/32 and 1/16 eyelets.

Indeed Jelle, your amps are clean enough to eat off of. (of course nevermind the extremely Toxic Lead Solder, LOL, I know...)

I like modern Art.

Looking at that photo ..... it seems a shame to enclose that amp where folks can't see the beauty of it. I've seen a lot of such photos here at TAG. Magnificent and beautiful builds! Art with a capital "A"!

Actually, that is an older amp, one I did a while ago. I only had the larger eyes to work with then. I have changed and cleaned up the layout quite a bit for the current ones.

Hope you don't mind but I was snooping in your photo gallery and saw this amp.
The white suede and silver chassis really looks cool

Indeed, your standards and workmanship is impeccable! I do have one question if you don't mind... I'm curious why the preference to mount the octal tube sockets from the bottom of the amp vs from the top of the amp. I've seen it both ways and was just curious from an experienced builder as to the reason for this.

When I was playing around with my chassis, I noticed a tiny gap around the base of the socket when I mounted them from bottom. I reversed it and mounted them from inside the amp, and it seems to give a cleaner look outside of the amp... with the socket being flush with the bottom of the chassis.

Good question....... For me it is a preference thing, plus it looks cleaner inside the chassis.
