Are you talking conversion, or organ (iron) harvesting? I was going to pick up a early 70s Twin on Craigslist and just harvest the iron from it. It'd be only 4 ohms if I used the output trannie, but my cab is 4 ohm anyway
Ofcourse, I got to thinking about knocking a vintage fender in the head and what that might feel like down the road. Would I someday regret taking a vintage amplifier and parting it out?
I have done that back in the day and am still regretting it. New parts are cheap and apparently, Mr. Dumble can make great amps with that so why mess up a cool vintage amp?
hah.. ok then. Jeees. I have a BF Twin that was chopped and has a bad OT, so I was just figurin'.
I like the magazine stand idea. I have to imagine that is why the Twin was cut, and in a North Carolina bathroom there must be a magazine stand with 2-12s and a couple years of Boy's Life and at least one Sears catalog.
Ok, so whois going to hold my hand? This thing looks a little harder than your average clone.
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.
It can be done. Not my first choice since there isn't a lot of room vertically in a blackface. Use the doghouse wisely so you don't have to cram a lot of filter caps on the board. I have a '67 Bassman that has been many things in its lifetime. I have 8/32 bolts through the bottom with a star washer and nut, a piece of garolite, another nut as a spacer, the actual component board and nylon interior lock nuts to keep it down. About 1/2" at the shoulder. That leaves plenty of room for the preamp parts.
You'll still have to think out the panel switches. Fender skirt knobs don't make good push/pull knobs unless you can get your fingernails under the flange.
Some hack butchery will be needed for the footswitch hole. The silverface preservation society might swear out a warrant but I don't think the southeastern chapter is all that active right now sh
