Re: which transformer?
Well you can shop for any transformer set that is for a Fender Twin Reverb.
Power transformer
Output transformer
Choke coil inductor
To name a few companies that make them:
Magnetic Components
Hammond
Edcor
Mercury
Heyboer
Pacific Transformers

Re: which transformer?
which one will sound the best in your opinion?
Re: which transformer?
Well out of that list I have only tried Heyboer and Magnetic Components.
Both give acceptable performance and tone.
I suppose another consideration is price and availability.
I used Mag Comp xfmrs on my 100w ODS build recently and I'm satisfied with the results.
Made in Chicago and I believe the least expensive of that group.
I have Heyboer xfmrs in my 50w D'lite amp although I did change out the output transformer to a beefier one. (not sure what brand it is)
But really, any of those listed should work fine.
If you have to have the best, Mercury is the most expensive and should be the best.
If you are trying to keep costs down then Edcor or Mag Comp would get my vote.

Re: which transformer?
I would look first at what your chassis is cut for. To my knowledge Edcor is all stand up iron. A traditional Dumble chassis is cut for a lay down PT and a stand up choke and OT.echo44 wrote:looking to build the #124

I always like to match that chassis drill and cuts to the transformer rather than having a bunch of odd gaps and used holes.

Re: which transformer?
I am buying the chassis fromRJ
He suggest I go with either the fender tone master transformer
or the edcor? Any thought appreciated? Other options I guess would include
mercury.

This question gets asked here constantly..Here are my thoughts on this!!
If you are looking to replicate the feel and tone of a particular model Dumble amp say a 124,102 or 183, you would then find the style and brand transformer on that particular amp in your case Fender Twin..
If this is the case then use what Dumble used ..seasoned Twin Iron... (ebay) as 1 source..
2nd option is to find a newer replica of the older type transformers..Find someone who has reversed engineered a replacement for Twin iron.. Mercury Magnetics Tone Clone series for example..
3rd option..If price is a factor and your not as concerned with replicating the tone of say a 124 then the other transformers available should do just fine..However when you get into this category of transformers it all becomes rather subjective like which off brand of tires you prefer.. They all work fine but their pro's and cons, so it then becomes a matter of opinion and taste..
Hope This Helps!!

echo44,
Can you put your location in your profile so we can recommend parts that may be close to your location?

Re: which transformer?
Another thing to consider is powering the relays are you going with a separate small transformer for the 5-6v or 12v needed or using voltage tap on the PT.
The Edcor are only standup and I confirmed that with rj last week.
For the money Edcor or Magnetic Components can't be beat. I used the Twin Reverb transformer set from Triodestores. On another ODS I am using a custom Heyboer that another TAG member had custom wound.
Follow Tony's advice (talbany) he knows about these amps.

Re: which transformer?
I ended up going with the mercury magnetics for the OT
