Kenny Wayne Shepherd - New Dumble amp

Post by bluesfendermanblues »

In the resent issue of the German magazine "Gitarre & Bass", there is a feature of KWS, where he talks about HAD has build him a brand new amp.

Does anybody has info regarding this amp??

Who knows Kenny?

I found another article. There appears to be a Tweedledee Deluxe.

It's Alexander's variant of a 5E3 Tweed Deluxe.

No, never been inside one. I recall someone telling me it had a lot of gain. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say the plate loads are 220K for V1A and V1B and uses a 12AX7 instead of a 12AY7 for the input stage. Of course his instantly recognizable 220K/500pF HPF is in all likelyhood on the grid of the second triode (just like we've seen on the "Hotel Hog"). Also, I remember hearing that he helped out Adam Stark of Stark Amps. Stark's 5E3 variant, the X-Ray Amp, has 220K plate loads on the first two stages. Wild speculation perhaps?

UHOP,
I believe you have the wrong Stark....The link you gave is for some guy in Europe. Adam Stark is in CA. Here are a few pics of his X-ray .

The clips I heard of this amp were very gainy sounding...I always thought he had an overdrive pedal in front.....but maybe not....
Thanks

Thanks Chris, I can't seem to find the "real" Stark site. Does he even have one? Found the facebook page but...

Phonix,
You are welcome!! :D His site was modest at best when he was building amps....I don't know that he still does????? Could be why the basic link sent you to another Stark...... :D

Those amps were bad azz if my memory serves......I passed them off as Deluxe clone..people were tight lipped about them...they did sound good!!!

I have a few photo's of the "Sex amp" which I'm guessing is the Bassman clone....not as close up though....looked stock.
I'll post them if anyone is interested...
Thanks

Count me interested!

I think HAD and Stark are incommunicado at this point. Something having to do with the sharing of ideas and building ethics...:?

Great infor Chris G.,

I've build a tweed (5E3) deluxe and a Super (5F4) the past month. Using speakers and transformers I had laying around.

Tried to use the knowledge I have picked up, building 3 Dumble amps and have 'Dumblelized' the amps a tiny bit, using the usual
-Apex Jr. cable, - in stead of cloth covered wire
- SDS Orange drops - in stead of axioms (as if I could get those anyway)
- Dale reistors for plate, (Why add noise with CC)
- metal film for cathode (Cheap and good)
- Carbon comp for the signal way (hey I'm not a Dumbel purist - I want tweed)
and screened grid wires through-out (tweeds are notorious for oscillation - Leo Fender designed for clean country - not blues)

Both amps sound great, but I never figured, that HAD had actually build tweed amps....but off course he has done that. However, I hounstly don't think a tweed deluxe need more gain. Its already a blues gain monster.

Phonix,
Here's the Sex Amp....Looks like a Bassman\Marshall type affair.
Thanks
