#183, what power tubes did it come with?

Post by David Root »

IIRC, Scott told us the original #183 had GE short plate 12AX7WA in it, and not the later '80s ones, but earlier JG-GEs, I think.

Anyone know what the EL34s were originally?

No Clue exactly but suspect anything pre-New Sensor would be correct.

Thanx again.

I just "accidentally" bought three Mullard Xf2s and one Xf1 on fleabay. Put in what was I thought an unlikely bid and watched it go down to 0 sec in disbelief.

Anyone want a pair of used '02 Winged =C=s?

I don't mean to derail, but I see that CE Distr only sells to dealer, repair shop or manufacturer. Does any body know how there prices compare to Mouser, for instance?

Would these EL34's be considered as to what to look for?
For a #183 clone, that is.

There prices are more comparable to Tube depot. They only stock so much stuff though. They only sell resistors in quantity also.

Frank, it's hard to tell. Folks say "older" Svetlana EL34s are better. I have a '77 Marshall 2204 that had '02 Svets in it. And three Mesa STR 12AX7s too.

I thought it sounded OK until I put longplate Mullards in V1 and V3 and an I63 short plate ditto in V2. Then I put a matched Xf1/Xf2 pair of used EL34s in as well, bought two Avatar vintage 2x12s and loaded them with four '77 blackback G12Ms with 55Hz cones.

Now I'm broke but in Marshall heaven!

It will be interesting to see what works in #183 with the GE 12AX7WAs HAD spec'd for the preamp and PI. I'm gathering stuff now for mine. Have the WAs already, got three '75 NIB on fleabay for $73.
