Discrepancies...
I just realized that I have two hybrid a schematics, dated the same (3-15-00). The pdf has a 0.022uF input cap to the PI. This one shows 0.01uF...which one is correct?

Your right, those schematics are different.
I noticed #124 used the .02. Perhaps it depends on the other components
used upstream, such as the 10uf Kcaps. One might have to experiment to find out what effect it has on the 'system'.
I tried swapping the .02-.01 OD caps to .01-.005 and it sounded too thin on my build so swapped back. Perhaps if my Kcaps were 10uf and not 5uf
on V1 it may have been better.

I had the same experience when I changed my OD couplers to 0.02 and 0.01 in the 6V6 amp. The sound considerably fattened up without getting muddy. I like it. My PI input cap is a 0.005 right now which is below the 0.02/0.01 in the D schems but way above the 0.001 in a BF Fender.tonelab2 wrote:I tried swapping the .02-.01 OD caps to .01-.005 and it sounded too thin on my build so swapped back. Re: Discrepancies...
Interesting schematic showing some alternative values. How come the discussion died away so quickly? I for one will try some of those values once I get my amp up and running.

Re: Discrepancies...
.02 not .022 is the correct value for anything but a 70's style amp- those have .001

What's also kind of strange on that amp is the PI plates both at 100K.
Why would it have a 1uf on CL2 and OD2?
I have seen a couple layouts with a 1uf on OD2 before but not on both.
200K on the Bias splitters?

Is the difference between .02 and .022 significant?Funkalicousgroove wrote:.02 not .022 is the correct value for anything but a 70's style amp- those have .001
Re: Discrepancies...
it's a small difference. I think the point funk was trying to make is the .02 is the CORRECT value. he wasnt implying a .022 would sound bad or wouldnt work. Tonally (especially when you count in tolerance) they should sound relatively the samebrewdude wrote:Is the difference between .02 and .022 significant?Funkalicousgroove wrote:.02 not .022 is the correct value for anything but a 70's style amp- those have .001
