Did anyone improve on the FWR with 1N4007s?

Post by Joost »

The FWR on the 124 seems a bit primitive. I know the precision power supply fixes some of that but the flimsy 1N4007 diodes providing all the b+ current just seems wrong. Are there better diodes available? Or maybe use snubbers in parallel with the diodes to fix switching noise and hum?

I use UF4007's with 1nF's in parallel.

Yes but there are three 1N4007's in series for each side providing triple rating.

The classic power supply does date from the early 80's if not earlier.

Tube rectifiers are primitive as well but they work well.

It all depends on what you want from the power supply.

The UF's are great but I think using the caps with them can actually bring noise back to the table.

Wish I could link you to something but don't have it offhand... Poke around though and I think you'll find some stuff about it.

For sure though UF's are the way to go though....imho...
