#124 with built in Dumbleator=

Post by Joost »

Ok, probably a stupid question, but I gotta ask. Is it possible to build a #124 with a built in Dumbleator. I found nothing in the search so probably not. On the other hand, Two Rock and Redplate offer amps with built in dumbleators, so it should fit right?

Yes, it is possible to do that, other forum members have done it.
If I recall correctly, Talbany, (Tony) at VVR amps does it, and has posted information on the subject.

I'm interested in your project, Joost.
I'd like to make the same reverb to loop change in my BM, but
probably won't attempt it without a diagram or picture to follow.

Maybe next build.

I've been thinking about the same thing recently but too much on plate. I'll have to tackle it in my next project. I'll have to do some searching.

Great

Great! I do have to figure out though how I'll fit the extra preamp tube onto the chassis. i don't mind building a 50w ODS but I kinda wanted to get a precut chassis. Any suggestions?

Natchanis has a black chassis with 4 preamp tube cutouts.

I did my first D-type, #124, without a built in buffered loop. Then I did a '70s ODS 50W in a BFPR chassis, and a Bluesmaster HRM, in a BF Bassman chassis, both with Normster's buffered loop, serial connected, in circuit all the time.

Normster's loop is nice because it has fewer components than some I've seen, and if you use Solen 630V caps (the black ones), they are the smallest I could find, you can fit the circuit in quite easily, even in a Princeton Reverb chassis with Bassman iron!

I don't think I would build another D-type without the buffered loop.

Oh, and fitting the extra 9-pin hole--in the Bassman chassis I had already drilled out one to octal (for 4 power tubes) so I drilled the 4th 9-pin hole pretty much the other side of the chassis from the 3rd one, and used a small Hammond filament transformer (166F12) and rectifier to supply DC to the 4th tube, rather than run AC heater wiring two ways under the main component board and all those signal wires. See pic below.

Wow, nice build. I searched the forum and found Normsters schematic. I think I can spot most of the parts in your build. Small Solen caps indeed. If you have a close up of your small dumbleator, I'd really appreciate it. I see that Hammond transformer too. Smart move.

As for the place for the fourth tube I found this chassis on Natchakom's site

Too bad it says 110 volts
