External OD trim adjustment.

I, like many of you I am sure, have made my OD trim pot externally adjustable on the back of the chassis. I have found this very useful up to now for fine adjusting between single coil and humbuckers. My irritation is that the pot often gets moved out of adjustment in transit to rehearsals etc. This got me thinking.......has anybody tried, with any success, adjusting an internal trim for humbuckers and then fitting a switch on the back of the chassis that could switch in a 5K resistor from the ground lug of the trim pot back to ground ( changing the value to ground from say 20K to 25k BM settings) for a single coil guitar? Could or does this work? Would be great if it does!!!!

You could always get a pot with higher resistance to turn.
I know when you order them you can specify the high or low resistance
so they wont move on you.

You could try a locking type. Clarostat or other. Might not look good without a knob, though

So just wire up a switch with two seperate resistors.
That would probably take all things out of the equation and
you wouldnt have to drill for another switch. Just reeplace
the pot altogether.

Another solution would be to stick a small chunk of white or light colored gaffer's tape and mark the fave positions with a sharpie. Easy to return to favored settings.

What I did on my D'lite was put the pot on the back.
I added a resistor in series from the left lug to ground.
(when viewing the pot from the back)

I put a chicken head knob on the pot and when the pointer is straight up it was at 25K.
I made a black label with my Brother label printer that had a 20K, 25K, 30K
on it.
So even if I can't see the knob I can reach behind and feel where it is.
Besides, you should really set it by ear anyway but the way I did it, at least I have a reference points.

Another thing you could do if there is room is use a rotary switch with a few resistors on it say 20K to 40K in 5K or 10K increments.
