Suhr MiniMix II

Post by bluesfendermanblues »

I am still amazed by the Surh MiniMix II - it makes amp sound 'better'

When using the amp with just the loop pathed in and no effects connected. It sounds pretty good.

However, patching the Suhr MM II in the loop makes sound clearer or sweeter. Further patching in my intellifex (set 100% wet) in the Suhr doesnt change the sound - it only adds effect. Very nice.

I know that this is what the Suhr add tells you, but I didn't expect it to actually improve?? the sound. Really nice, but really really weird. This shouldn't be possible  - adding more stuff in the signal patch is not supposed to improve your sound, but to degrade it.

One of my favorite dumble inspired youtube clips is the Dogears kitchen video. The suhr gives me that sweet-top-end sound.

I am not a Suhr shareholder or orther wise afiliated or asociated and I know that this sounds like a stupid TGP or harmony-central product claim praise, but the Suhr really works. Just wanted to share that.

Man, you went to the dark side Claus.

Just kidding, I wish I could afford a Suhr Minimix.
What changed with the new Minimix II?

Also, is it made to plug into a Dumbleator? Or into the passive amp jacks?

+2, I second that. My friend, Pete Wood runs his Bludo with or without Bludolator through the MiniMix and tone is crystal clear.
Great, transparent loop device.
I also love Fuchs verbrator. 8)

The Verbrator is nice and handy, but the verbrator is (just) a dumblelator in pedal size with a parallel option. You still need a Minimix with the verbrator in order to get the goods.

First, I think parallel loops are much better than serial loops.
Second, the parallel loop in my Fuchs is great.
Third, from your comments, the mini-mix must be coloring your tone in a good way.

I am very interested in the sound difference the mini-mix is making. Care to post some clips with and without so that we can hear the difference? Anybody know what is inside the mini-mix? An analysis of the design would be a very interesting topic.

Verbrator is not Just a D-lator, it has a lovely reverb in it and you don’t need a MiniMix with it because it does exactly the same thing, plus you can use it in series too.
But the way, I just found one processor which works great in a D loop without any additional buffering device. After modification it switches channels as well as FXs.
You can put amp’s master at very loud gig setting (5 or 7) and no problems at all on input overloading. And most importantly it can make amp bigger, sweeter, stereo with the second amp. I am in the middle of a modification process and if I’m successful I’ll publish a video here.

Cheers

I am a serial loop convert.

I used to be a big fan of build-in parallel loops (did a DIY soldano 88 pre with KOR parallel loop and liked it back in the mid 90s)

However, with a Dumble a separate serial dumblelator just sounds better - it adds a nice compression and 3D quality. Adding the Suhr Minimix sounds even better.

I didn't really understand Dogears posts about 200p cables with (bigass) 68p on the master vol untill I tried it myself. Its the tone I been looking for and I almost regret that I didn't do this long time ago.

Check out Dogears' or Max' posts about same

180-200p cables rolls off the high end a little bit and the mastervol bright cap makes the signal to the cumblelator a little brighter.

It sounds counter intuitive, but all I can say is Dogears was right about this all along.

I haven't measured my loop cable capacitance but I have a 47pf on my Master.
But it's Mogami 2454 so it isn't super low pf cable.

So maybe I'm already partly there, but without the Minimix. :D

There have been alot of *&^%lator names applied in the past, but Cumbleator is the best I've heard yet. What exactly does it do, I wonder? Is there a self-cleaning version?

Oh, and does anyone care to post a clip with and without the MiniMix?
