Re: #0183 Power Trafo
Grtamp, The power transformers you have listed are 5.5 amps max. For the filament windings
You need 7 amps for the filaments on #183.
This is a Heyboer Blackface Twin plus HTS-10359. Jason had custom wound.
The original power transformer was a magic parts, TF-130

Re: #0183 Power Trafo
This brings up a question that I have never gotten a clear answer to.
Please forgive me for not getting my RCA manual out to be specific on the math. That said, I understand that the power requirements of a 4 EL 34 amp are different that a 4 6L6.
There seem to be a fair amount of Dumbles with EL34 power sections, (183, 204 come to mind) that use the Magic Parts TF-130. Are there examples that used non twin PTs?
I've talked with Magic Parts and the designation TF-130 is their internal part number for the twin PT. Is has always been this way.
Therefore, HAD used a PT that was underrated in his EL34 builds. Does anyone have info that contradicts this?

Hi 67plexi , the Heyboer Blackface Twin plus HTS-10359 have 230V tap also?

Re: #0183 Power Trafo
The JTM 100 Marshall power transformer 1203-80 would be my first choice
It has an input voltage of 100v, 120v, 220v, 230,240v

I hope this helps. Steve.

Thanks!
...but for a 50W version of the #183. Will a 50W Plexi OT like the one above work? Made for 2xEL34

Re: #0183 Power Trafo
Johan, The JTM 50 output transformer 789-139 will work out fine
for a 50 watt EL-34 amp.

67plexi , excuse me , have you a wiring diagram of Heyboer you mentioned?
has 230V tap?

Re: #0183 Power Trafo
Steve, unless he going to use a voltage doubler circuit I would shy away from the 1203-80. That PT was designed as a replacement for the 67' JTM100 dual bridge rectifier, 8 "inside" can model. Besides these suckers are heavy, 16 lbs of iron, 5 more than you really need.67plexi wrote:The JTM 100 Marshall power transformer 1203-80 would be my first choice

A better choice would be the 1204-43 (JTM66 45/100), using the 490V tap.
Wiring the 1203-80 secondaries............

It's a shame
Re: #0183 Power Trafo
Hello all,
I have been reading here over and over again, but I am still not sure if we can use the Tonemaster 026554 PT, I think it is also used in the red knob twin. I have an export version I can rebuild to 102 or 183, because I am from europe. Can some one say for sure it is save to use with EL34. Although I have to say, when the twin was still working right, I have tried EL34 in it for some time and have had no problem yet.

Re: #0183 Power Trafo
First, do you want to build a 100 watt version?
As mentioned, you should use a PT with 7 amperes capacity on the 6.3 vac filament winding.
For 50 watt amp you should use 6 ampere.
