EV 1x12 thiele cab double micing sound test

Post by ericlee »

All around 18mm Baltic birch plywood cabinet with the EVM-12L speaker and two inner mic capsules.
This cab is my favourite so far – compact, powerful, tone rich and sturdy.

Here are the sound samples of the two built in mic capsules, one is on and another is off axis. Best result is when both are recorded (PA-ed) together.

1. Off axis sample followed by same phrase on axis.

2. Simultaneous recording with both mics slightly paned left and right.

Great sounds.

I like really dig the clean as is - a backing track would make it easier to evaluate the OD sounds, which would benefit from a little bit of a room mic sound to increase the 3D'ness.

Great sounds

I love the look of the cab and the simplicity of having the mikes pre-mounted, very cool idea. Can you share the dimensions of the cab and ports?

Total honesty... the cleans would be hard pressed to be any better but the OD is not great. It sounds a bit off, can't describe it but it's not the typical smooth Dumble tone.

Sure,
Length – 53cm, Height – 42cm, Depth – 35cm.
Port tubes – L- 17cm, Dia – 10cm.
Baffle recessed from the front grill – 5,5cm

I’m still tweaking OD channel, it will be great. :)
Cheers

Speaker is an EVM12L, I'm curious on the capsules as well.

Capsul is a very light, neodymium instrument mic insert, something like Zen 609. custom order in Germany.

Hello my man,
Actually all band goes through a PA, so my cab is miked up with ON axis mic and then I have external stereo mic on the camera.

On another video – everything is recorded via PA desk! So my 2x12 cab is miced up with inner slightly off axis mic.
But this amp is 50w head with an ordinary Ceriatone transformers.
