Pre-OD network on D'Lite

Post by greiswig »

All,

On the stock D'Lite, there is one .05uF coupler after V1b. The recommended "tweak," as I understand it, is to add a .02uF in there, and a 10M resistor to ground between them. So this should make for a total of .015uF as the coupling cap between V1b and V2a.

Is there an advantage to this over simply replacing the .05uF cap with a .015uF cap?

That tweak definitely thins the OD out.

I had my D'lite pretty much like the tweaked layout, but later changed it to the 101 schematic values which sounded better to me.

What schematic is that, Tom?

Thanks, Tom. I notice a block off to the side apparently encouraging a .047-.0047 in addition to the .047 already there, to "thin the OD tone somewhat." That seems pretty darn similar to the D'Lite tweek, doesn't it?

So again, my question is just what is the difference whether there is a single lower-value resistor or a .05+.022 pair?

Yes, I forget who came up with that pre OD network.
Possibly Gil.
Apologies if that is not correct.

The notes in the boxes are mine for the most part.
I was helping a friend with his 50w build and annotated the schematic to help him.

What I remember about the pre OD tweak was that it was a .05uF cap and the 10M resistor to ground.

When in clean mode the .047uF couples with the PI.
Then when in OD, the added .05uF goes in series with the .047uf for a combined total of .024uF which would take some bass out of the signal.

I like to use this calculator for resistor parallels and cap series values.

Tom, please re-read my initial question: it isn't about whether the additional coupling cap reduces bass, I know that.

The clean would be different if you reduced the cap. Point was to keep the cap at .05 for the cleans.

Holy crap. I can't believe I missed that little subtlety. Thanks!
