OVERDIVE special

Post by boldaslove6789 »

Dumble 176 has OVERDIVE Speacial and not OVERDRIVE Special on it. Whats up with that? As nitpicky as HAD is I don't see him missing something like this. FAKE?

Never noticed that before! Very hard to believe that's a mistake.

I would say it might be a fake, look at the tolex work. Not up to Alexanders standards, especially the cross bar.

possible fake but not sure. That textured leather and iimitation leather are a PITA to work with and make look right. Could be a reject when setting up a run of chassis that HADs decided to use when he ran out of good chassis, could be a million reasons why.

It's not a fake, one of my friends (current owner of #155) owned that amp for a short while, it does indeed say Overdive on the front panel ! It did his head in that it was mispelt :D

Thanks Rob,

That is pretty funny. Wonder what Alexanders motive was? Maybe he never noticed it as well.

Guess we will never know....

Hi David,

AFAIK it's original and well known since the early nineties. It's the only one I know of with this funny miss take.

Cheers,

Max

There is a SSS with a funny misspelling as well. I'm sure it's intentional.

This reminds me of a guy here in Sweden who some time in the early 80's wanted to go into the amp business using the brand name Controller. When taking the amp to an international trade show, he couldn't understand why people were laughing hysterically, until someone pointed out that "Controller" is not spelt with a U... :)

The amps are supposedly great though, and pop up on the Swedish second hand market now and then.

I love the look of the C*ntroller, upside down like a combo, with a sort of 60/70's hi-fi face. Tragic story, this guy really had some style!

Probably not a good example of "any publicity is good publicity"... though he's made it to TAG 30 years later in the same thread as Dumble, not many have that claim to fame.

His son talks about it in this thread, but don't go searching the amp's name if you are easily offended...
