What would you use?
I’m new to the Dumble amp building one year so far.
All filter capacitors in the photo are USA or German made.
My opinion bigger is best. What do you think will give the best sound?
1-	Classic style filter supply
2-	Precision style filter supply
Best regards, Steve.

I'm interested in the guys opinion that have used both as well.
On my current project I stuck with the classic power supply filter board because I was able to make the eyelet board myself.
I would think the precision board would offer better filtering but at added cost which is what mainly convinced me to go classic.
The precision supply does look classier.

I've made eyelet board for precision PS. You simply have to use wire in place of the PCB traces, but it works just fine. A tad more work.Structo wrote:On my current project I stuck with the classic power supply filter board because I was able to make the eyelet board myself.

Re: Power Filter Supply
With my recent vibrolux iron ODS, I had B+2 @ 450v IIRC. That made me nervous about using the Classic supply, so I converted to precision. (Depends on your iron though)
Also beware that voltages on the screen cap after a choke can spike, on throwing the standby switch, up to some big voltages, so it's safer to have something sturdy in there.
Cheers,
Paul.

Ditto, actually it's not as hard as it would appear.Bob-I wrote:I've made eyelet board for precision PS. You simply have to use wire in place of the PCB traces, but it works just fine. Re: Power Filter Supply
Yeah, I did consider that but one of the reasons I went with the classic is I used two of those huge Sprague 320uF caps I got from 67 Plexi so there wasn't a lot of room.
Also when I had asked Gil Ayan if he thought there was any big difference between the classic and precision supply filter performance wise, he said he couldn't tell the difference.
Paul, I noticed on my D'lite after I installed a choke instead of the power resistor that my screen voltage was the same as my plate voltage or maybe 1v less.
That concerned me but I was reassured that it wasn't a problem.
Also, doesn't the screen voltage go down a bit when you are playing?
I usually put a .01uF cap across the standby switch for spike protection.

Re: Power Filter Supply
thats a hard question because it also matters what your cap options are. they all sound a little different. that being said i like both but overall id say go with the precision. i hear a difference and feel it but its hard to put into words. precision has a tighter bass maybe.. can't go wrong either way though

You never know I may convert it later on but I was lucky to get these two Powerlytic caps so I gots to use them!:D
But then again, I value Gil's opinion and Gil knows tone, after all.

Re: Power Filter Supply
I've used precision type localized close to their tubes, which is the next step up from the precision board, at least according to O'Connor. They did sound good, but then they were Black Gates.
I have also used single brute force 550V caps on plates & screens at 520V (quiescent). They sound good too.
I am familiar with the arguments for two smaller caps in series and I believe it, just not sure how much of that you can hear or "feel".
