Anyone running a 15" speaker with a Dumble style amp?

Post by Big Steve »

I just got a JBL D130. I was thinking of trying it with my RedPlate Black Tweed Special. But in order to do so, I will need to make a new baffel. Before going through the hassel, I though I would find out if anyone else has done it. What did you find? Anyone care to speculate on what it would sound like?

I've kinda wondered how running maybe a 15 and a 10 would work.

I use a 12" EV SRO in my Welagen 50 watt ODS supplemented with an EVM 15L in an extension cab. The 15 really made my sound happen, but I'm playing all early 60's instrumental stuff. Phil

i wouldn't use an original cone d130 with one of these, but thats just me.. recones are more what would go with a dumble. or just go with an EV and have no worries at all about blowing it, and sounds killer.

I'm about to find out. Just received a pair of JBL E130s which I am changing out a pair of D140Fs from a 2x15 Fender/Sunn type cabinet for.

Skyboltone put me on to the E130s so he is a 15" fan, very knowledgeable too.

Hey David,
Somewhere there is a bassist lusting after those D140s.
That isn't me.
I have a pair of EVM15Ls and a 15B.

I have an E130 that I use with my SOD II for my pedal steel. Sounds killer. Especially on the C6th neck.

E130s

I just got them installed and wired up y'day. I ran them briefly off a 15W tweed Harvard clone 8 ohm into 4 ohm mismatch but they sounded great, big, especially on the bottom E and A strings, clean like my Altecs but without that Alnico warmth. Me like um.

Will try them on my #124 clone today. Cab is closed with a small 3x3" port, not tuned, no divider.

I have a thread on modifying the cab to open back, on the Technical Discussions. Please take a look there and I would appreciate any help/comments/opinions on that.

E is fun but the K series is the bomb! Alnico warmth with the power handling. That's what I have been using in my Vibroverbs. K130. :D

Brownface vibroverb's are 2 10's, so he must be talking about a blackface which is a single 15. Phil

Correct, Phil. :D Blackface with 1x15.

EVM 15L is fun too but very loud.

I yet have to try a 15" Altec.

Here is a clip I did w a Weber high powered 15 P-15A.. Alnico.. I used it in the breakdown solo 2 in the middle.. I used the 70's amps in OD no boost with the speaker.. I am pushing it pretty good so the the speaker is beraking pretty good going after the BFG tone there so if you want a clean clip this ain't it.. Thought I would post anyway.. I think the 15 works for some things and it this case really barks out at you what I was going for so it's really a taste placement for me.. The other rythum track is with Music Man amp in OD/with 65's no boost gained up...No great playing here just a goof off clip..
