Bias Pot

Post by kd »

Where are ya'll getting the bias pots that allow adjustment from either side? I've seen them somewhere and now I can't seem to find them.

Thanks,
Ken

Antique Electronics has them.

Search for part # R-V10KL-BP-FND

I personally prefer dealing with Ken over at Watts Tube Audio though.

I like using the PEC pots with the short, slotted shaft and the locking nut on the bushing.
You make your adjustments then screw the lock nut down snug and there is no way that it can be bumped or mistakenly turned.

I've seen some guys use regular pots and even put knobs on them.
Bad mistake, IMO. Somebody always feels the need to twist knobs.

To each his own. Depends who is using the amp.

The PEC is a regular pot. It isn't really made to handle DC voltages.

PEC spec sheet states "Operating voltage: 500 V, subject to power rating"

Doesn't say if AC or DC but I have been using them as bias and presence pots for several years with no problems whatsoever. Now if they were to have an amp or two across them that might be another matter, but a mA or two I think they are fine.

I'll bet that the PEC pot is rated for higher service than the CTS (or whatever) pot in your Fender - of ANY vintage.
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

Man, you are a half empty glass type fellow aren't you.
Just how much "DC" voltage are we talking about here?

45mv?
Yes, always get told that.
I have a very negative outlook on things unfortunately. :(

I figure the glass is not half full, or half empty. It's simply at 50% capacity.
