D'Lite 22/33 - 2x12 (G1265/Scumback M75-LHDC-65)

Post by doveman »

OK ... Scumback M75-LHDC-65 arrived ... supposed to be close to a Pre-Rola G1265 ... same size magnets ... both big dust caps.

  • Really liked it ... they paired together really well.
  • G1265 gets flabby bass at high volumes ... but this worked. I always thought a 2x12 would fix that ... guess it does.
  • Covered each side ... liked what both sides were doing ... they are similar but together they are both better than they are alone. The Scumback is definitely smoother ... the G1265 has got harsher edges but with the other speaker it works. Adds a bit of "bite" but I did not like it much alone.
  • Really balanced but they were meant to be ... both 97db ... so that was nice ... finally. Neither speaker overwhelming the other. Both together at 4 ohms is still not quite as loud as one EVM12L at 8 ohms.
  • OK ... how much does it weigh ... 40.5# ... that was right at my goal. Feels pretty good and now it doesn't need castors.
So ... pleased ... very pleased. A different flavor than the EVM12L ... but nice to have both.

Give the 65 some time the edges will smooth out nicely 50-80 hours..

I've had the G1265 for almost two years ... it seems broken in but it might get more exercise in this cab. Maybe still has a way to go.

if the g12-65 sounds too harsh to you (assuming is broken in) you might want to try a weber alnico g1265 should smooth it out a bit.

In general ive found celestions to be a bit bright, harsh, and bitey at times. Im hooked on the webers i had custom built so i recommend them to everyone

I actually think the G1265 will work. I used it for quite a while playing it loud but did not like the flabby bottom end in a 1x12 with a live rock band. After a few months, I changed over to an EVM12L 1x12 that solved that problem. I always thought that a 2x12 G1265 would be better for me that that speaker in a 1x12.

But if I was going to change it out ... I think I'd go with another Scumback ... that is a really impressive version of the G1265. Much smoother than the G1265. I bought it used from a guy on TGP so it may be broken in a bit more ... not sure.

But together ... I like them I think. 8)

glad you like them, im a huge fan of mixing speakers. Two of the same speakers sounds too "dry" to me but mixing a bright speaker with a warm speaker fills in all the frequencies and makes the sound much fuller and 3D IMO. i think if you put another scumback in it might not sound as good even though that speaker alone sounds better to you.

guitar amplification is weird :P

Agreed ...

My experience with mixing speakers is hit and miss. But I think these two are better together than apart and that's sort of what I was hoping for ... don't plan to change it.

I'm going to try not to buy anything in 2010. In fact, I'm about to start selling the extras I have rather than buying

That's funny!

You know what's interesting ... I lasted 25 years with a Boogie MK1, EVM12L & Yamaha SA2000 ... then I started participating in the forums ... a billion $ later ... well you know.

Been three weeks ... I can still recommend this option ... Scumback M75-LHDC-65 + G1265 Heritage Reissue

[IMG:576:429]http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m168 ... CN1084.jpg[/img]

This option or my 1x12 EVM12L Classic are two really good speaker flavors for this amp.

Anyone tried the Reinhardt speakers now for sale? I think they are made by Weber VST. There's a 65 speaker there as well.

All 4 of Bobs speakers are 65 watts but only one of them is a G12-65 copy right? There's so many different 65's so I wonder if his is based on the same speaker as the Celestion Heritage.
